I know that you are busy, so I will get right to the point; we are a group of concerned Christians from churches in Ashe County who have a formed an organization called “High Country Creation Weekend.” We believe that the message that the schools are teaching our children about evolution is wrong and that the church needs to teach the biblical message of Creation found in the book of Genesis. That is why we believe it is so important for you to read this rest of this letter.

In the average textbook in any School in America, we find that it is being taught that the earth is billions of years old. In addition, they will also teach that the dinosaurs lived and died before man was alive and on the earth. From first glance, one might ask, "what is wrong with that, God could have made it that way?" The fundamental problem with dinosaurs living and dying before man began living on the earth is simple. In order for that to have happened it means death entered the world before sin. This would in essence mean that death is not a result of sin but a natural occurrence. Ultimately, this leads to a "no need for Jesus" attitude. Which as you are aware is a popular teaching by schools and universities today! Also if God took millions of years for Creation than we have another problem we have a big hole in the Bible.

It is in response to all of this that we are organizing a "Creation weekend". We are working in conjunction with the Answers in Genesis organization, which as many of you know, was founded by Ken Hamm. Ken Hamm is also the founder of the "Creation Museum" in Petersburg Ky. We are also working with local churches from Watauga and Allegany Counties. This event is scheduled to take place October 5th and 6th at Ashe High School Auditorium. The list of events include, Sunday, October 5th with special music by local groups and a program on "Answers in Genesis." Monday, October 6th we will have special music by “The Lewis Family” and another program on “Answers in Genesis.” All events begin at 6:00pm, and will conclude around 9:30pm.The speaker for all events will be James "Jim" Gardener. He is the founder of Canopy Ministries and is an adjunct speaker for Answers in Genesis. His bio and info can be found www.canopyministries.org.
